Moremi GR - Day 5
Sometimes campsites are really quiet at night, like there are no night creature around. This was not one of them. Two honey badgers were fiddling around in our campsite, knocking over our basin of water and then trying to find any scraps in the fire.

Another morning another glorious sunrise |
It turned out that only one slop survived unscathed. The hyena had left one of Cheryl’s flip flops, bitten though the thong of the other, but decimated Dru’s.
We had to finish packing the car but were still gone before dawn. We had heard lion in the opposite direction but wanted to get to Xini Lagoon earlier rather than later to see if we could catch the wild dogs.

Moremi GR - Day 3
Although the park opens at 6am, we knew it would still be dark, but we wanted to be up and ready by that time just in case the lions that we'd heard far away in the night were closer to camp in the morning.

The start of the gravel just outside Shorobe |
A surprisingly good nights sleep considering we were right next to a road with a few loud bars nearby, we were up at 6am to have breakfast and get going by 7am. It’s a 100 kilometer drive to Moremi, which the first 20 km is potholed tar. After Shorobe where we stopped to drop the tyre pressure and pick up some firewood, it was onto the corrugated sandy 80km drive to Maqwee gate of Moremi.

Lake2Cape - South Africa
Finally seeing Table Mountain! |
In South Africa, our main target was the Cape Gannet colony in Lamberts Bay which is easily reachable from the border provided you arrive early. Lamberts Bay is a lazy fishing village but needs to deal with the notorious Western Cape weather and we arrived on a bad day - gloomy and rain!

Deadvlei - one of Namibia's top attractions |
While we had the opportunity to check out Namibia during our time in Botswana, we never got down to it and regretted not getting to Etosha at the very least. With cyclone Freddy bearing down on Zambia and Botswana, Namibia remained the only dry option at this point and we finally entered Namibia through the Caprivi.
