Tanzania dreaming - Part 1: Arriving in Dar es Salaam

Essential planing tools

Tanzania offers a wide range of attractions from wildlife to beaches to fishing and diving and mountain climbing. Amongst the many choices to explore, the Serengeti, Ngorongoro crater, Mount Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar are a must do for first time visitors.

These attractions are also reasonably accessible to a visitor with a decent infrastructure network in support. If you are doing this on your own like us, some careful planning is needed to make it all fall in to place, especially if you're traveling with a couple that are a few years older, as was the case with my parents, who were visiting us in Tanzania for the first time.

Dar museum doesn't offer much but is a decent starting point
Unlike your average tourist who arrives in Arusha, the folks arrived in Dar to stay with us and check out Tanzania. The plan was to do our own logistics while using a tour operator to get us in to the Serengeti and Crater. The adventure began with a Dar city tour starting at the fish market and taking in the museum and local craft market.

The Dar fish market can be an eye opener.
